Hundreds of employees from Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and the other medical groups that make up Atrius Health (Dedham Medical Associates, Granite Medical Group, Southboro Medical Group, South Shore Medical Center, Reliant Medical Group and VNA Care Network and Hospice) participated in the Boston Heart Walk on Saturday, September 7th. This marked the seventh year in a row our staff and their families and friends have teamed up to raise funds to support the lifesaving research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association.
It was a picture-perfect, sunny day as thousands of walkers hit the 1-, 2- or 6-mile routes around the Charles River. Before walking, individuals who have survived a cardiovascular surgery, heart attack, cardiac arrest or a stroke were honored on the Hatch Shell stage with a special “Red Cap Wave.”
Other event highlights included a pre-walk warm up by Sportacus from the children’s television show LazyTown, and autographs and photos with the Celtic’s Rajon Rondo and retired Red Sox players Jim Rice, Rick Miller and Luis Tiant.
Atrius Health supports the American Heart Association’s mission is to build healthier lives, free from cardiovascular disease and stroke. Heart disease remains our nation’s #1 killer, while stroke is the #4 killer and leading cause of serious, long term disability. The good news is that 80% of heart disease and stroke can be prevented!
