The 2012 Pride celebration in Boston, held on June 9th, was a hot one – literally. After three years of rain at the Pride celebration, Harvard Vanguard staff, family, patients and friends got to celebrate a perfect 80 degree day at Government Center this year. As always, Harvard Vanguard was represented by their usual colorful balloon decorated booth. Inside was information on our many services including behavioral health, fertility and reproductive health, our HIV Resource Team as well as current job opportunities within our organization. Harvard Vanguard handed out balloons, clapping noisemakers, t-shirts and to help everyone stay cool, a fan displaying Harvard Vanguard’s commitment to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. The celebration began around 11 a.m. as visitors started to arrive to check out the variety of booths at this year’s Pride. There were more than 120 booths representing healthcare, travel, publications, multiple services for the LGBT community and a variety of novelty items. The festivities truly began once the parade culminated at Government Center where everyone gathered. Once again, Harvard Vanguard was visible in showing its commitment and support to the LGBT employee and patient community as well as their families and friends. Over 30 staff volunteered in manning the booth and marching in the Pride parade representing Harvard Vanguard. As Boston celebrates more than 30 years of Pride, it is great to know that Harvard Vanguard has been represented for 15 years and will continue to participate for many years to come.
