Hundreds of employees from Atrius Health participated in the Boston Heart Walk on Saturday, September 10th at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. This marked the tenth year in a row our staff and their families, friends and even their dogs teamed up to raise funds to support the lifesaving research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association. The Atrius Health team has raised more than $950,000 for the Boston Heart Walk over the past 10 years.

Team members laced up their sneakers to walk the 1-, 3- or 6-mile routes around the Charles River. Before walking, individuals who have survived a cardiovascular surgery, heart attack, cardiac arrest or a stroke were honored on the Hatch Shell stage with a special “Red Cap Wave.” Other event highlights included autographs and photos with former Red Sox player and radio/television host Lou Merloni, heart healthy snacks, and the Kids Heart Challenge, a special half-mile course with obstacles designed specifically for kids ages 5-12 years.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading global cause of death, accounting for more than 17.3 million deaths per year, a number that is expected to grow to more than 23.6 million by 2030. A healthy diet and lifestyle are your best weapons to fight cardiovascular disease. Visit the American Heart Association’s website and learn more about steps you can take to keep your heart healthy!
