Hundreds of employees from Atrius Health (Dedham Medical Associates, Granite Medical Group, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, and VNA Care Network Foundation) participated in the Boston Heart Walk this past Saturday, September 12th at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. This marked the ninth year in a row our staff and their families, friends and even their dogs teamed up to raise funds to support the lifesaving research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association. The Atrius Health team has raised more than $800,000 for the Boston Heart Walk over the past 9 years.
Team members laced up their sneakers to walk the 1- or 6-mile routes around the Charles River. Before walking, individuals who have survived a cardiovascular surgery, heart attack, cardiac arrest or a stroke were honored on the Hatch Shell stage with a special “Red Cap Wave.” Other event highlights included autographs and photos with Red Sox player and current NESN sportscaster Steve Lyons, heart healthy snacks, face-painting in the Kids Zone, hands-only CPR training and much more.
Heart disease remains our nation’s #1 killer, while stroke is now the #5 killer and leading cause of serious, long term disability. The good news is that 80% of heart disease and stroke can be prevented! Click here to visit the American Heart Association’s website and learn more about steps you can take to keep your heart healthy!
